A Bidirectional List-Sequential (BI-LISS) Equalizer for Turbo Schemes

چکیده
In the context of coded transmission over intersymbol interference channels we investigate a bidirectional list-sequential equalizer (BI-LISS) suitable for turbo schemes. Especially for channels with an unmanageable high number of states for a trellis based APP equalization this sequential algorithm shows almost optimal performance with much smaller complexity. Generally, the list-sequential (LISS) equalizer is based on a decoding technique for convolutional codes with high memory, namely sequential decoding. We introduce a BILISS equalizer which leads to a further reduction of the work amount and provides the possibility of parallel processing. For this purpose two independent LISS equalizers are employed working in the forward and the backward direction respectively.

Turbo Equalization for Channels with High Memory Using a List-Sequential (LISS) Equalizer
For multipath channels with a high number of taps and signal constellation points the APP (BCJR) soft-in/soft-out detector in a turboscheme has a prohibitively high number of states. We replace it by a novel list-sequential stack (LISS) algorithm using augmented paths and an auxiliary stack for a length dependent bias term. For BERs lower than 10 the turbo system with a LISS equalizer has almos...

Currently many classical detection and decoding algorithms receive new attention in mobile communications. Amongst those classics are low density parity check codes [1], concatenated codes [2], weighted decoding with log-likelihood values as well as soft-in/soft-out decoding as performed by the BCJR algorithm and its derivatives [4], [5]. All four classics show up as key elements in the so-call...
متن کاملApplication of Filtering Based Turbo Equalization Algorithms to Magnetic Recording Channels
We investigate potential turbo equalization (TE) schemes for high density advanced magnetic recording systems. Compared to conventional TE schemes based on partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) detection, filtering based TE schemes are attractive due to their low computational complexity. In this paper, we focus on soft feedback equalization (SFE) [1]. We modify the generic SFE to deal wit...
متن کاملReduced-Complexity Turbo Equalization for High-Density Magnetic Recording Systems
This paper considers a decision-feedback-equalizer (DFE)-based soft decision detector as an alternative for the Bahl–Cocke–Jelinek–Raviv (BCJR) front-end for a coded magnetic recording channel. In previous work, a bidirectional-arbitrated DFE (BAD) was shown to perform in between a BCJR detector and a minimum mean-square error DFE. We propose a soft-output BAD (S-BAD) which takes advantage of t...
متن کاملA New Bi-Directional Soft Decision Linear Equalizer
A novel low complexity soft-input soft-output equalizer is proposed for reducing the effects of intersymbol interference channels. The equalizer uses a bi-directional multipass algorithm to successively improve a soft interference canceler/adaptive linear filter combination. The resulting transmitted symbol estimates are calculated with computational complexity of cubic order in channel memory ...
